Founder & Director

For more than two decades, Jill Wheeler has served to inspire people to achieve their greatest potential. Whether it is out on the water or on top of a mountain, Wheeler’s Wellfit Institute combines life coaching with the power of nature. The result: Adventure Therapy. Wheeler strives to create transformational experiences for teens, women, individuals, groups and communities through adventure classes, yoga, workshops and retreats.

After growing up in Connecticut and attending Colby College in Maine, Wheeler realized her heart belonged in the outdoors. She moved to Colorado and received her Masters in Psychology at the University of Denver. Jill lived in the Rocky Mountains for more than a decade, climbing, skiing, and hiking before moving to Naples, Fla. with her husband Carter and their two daughters, Finley and Channing, in 2006.

Wheeler quickly realized, she could offer Southwest Florida something that didn’t exist. She created Wellfit Institute and brought a unique, yet authentic concept to Naples that continues to grow on all fronts.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Wheeler councils clients on a one-on-one basis, as well as, in a weekly group environment. Wheeler is trained to help clients create vision and find balance to lead a more purposeful life.

Nature as a Classroom

Outside of the office, Wheeler was the first to bring Paddleboard Yoga to Naples. Wheeler’s 90-minute SUP class blends her love of adventure and water with her passion for yoga to create the ultimate Southwest Florida experience.

From biking and yoga in the Everglades to kiting in Costa Rica to rock climbing in Colorado, Wheeler creates custom adventure. Using nature as the classroom, clients are exposed to new experiences that are guaranteed to come home with a sense of renewed purpose and possibility.

Wheeler wears many hats as Founder of Wellfit Institute, but in the end her mission is to provide meaningful and life-changing experiences to her clients. Wheeler is committed to women empowerment, health and fitness, yoga and impacting the world in a positive way.

Inspiring teen girls to climb high

In 2014, Wheeler launched Wellfit Girls Program, a five-month fitness, leadership and empowerment program for teen girls. In May 2014, Wheeler lead a team of young women from Lee and Collier County and a group of young women from Cusco, Peru on a trek up the Lares Trail in Peru, reaching both Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, a 15th century Inca site, 2,430m above sea level. The five-month training curriculum included weekly group meetings, fitness activities, yoga and wellness practices that prepared the girls to embark on a life-changing, high-impact cultural immersion and trekking expedition to Peru.

The entire process was filmed as a documentary to educate the world about the impact of experiential leadership programs for the empowerment of girls. Wheeler’s intention is to have a global impact with the message that women and girls are heroes and can positively impact the world. Learn More…
